Hollywood actress Kate Hudson has revealed that it was Sir Paul McCartney who inspired her to ‘take a risk’ and release her first music album.

The 43-year-old star appeared in Netflix hit Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, alongside Daniel Craig, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton and Janelle Monáe, which was released in December.

Kate, who is the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn and step-daughter of her long-time partner Kurt Russell, has enjoyed acting success over the last 25 years with parts in films including How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Bride Wars and Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous, for which she was Oscar nominated.

However, now she’s looking to expand her career into the music industry after having been ‘a musical theatre girl’ who wanted to dance and sing when she was growing up.

The performer revealed it was watching Beatles legend Sir Paul’s iconic headline set at Glastonbury Festival in June last year that made her decide to ‘take risks’ in 2023 after becoming ‘so emotional’ during his slot.

Describing the ‘weird moment’ during the singer’s set, she mused: ‘Maybe it’s because he’s the same age as my mum and it just defines this time, the sort of innocence of the Beatles and how iconic they were,’ she mused.

‘They just changed the face of rock’n’roll and they believed in something. I started to get emotional about how different it is now. Like art, and what is art? What does it mean now? And it hit me that we just have to keep making art, good art,’ she told The Mirror.

Explaining how she was inspired, she added: ‘We have to believe in the things we’re putting out there and take risks and not always make people happy.’

Kate first opened up about her upcoming record during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in December, telling the host: ‘I’ve been making a record for like a year’, which she called ‘so fun’.

The actress revealed that she had been writing music since she was 19 but had ‘never shared it’ until she started thinking about doing so during the Covid pandemic.

‘And so I just thought that would be one of my great regrets. Like, I have no expectations. I just want to put a record out,’ she admitted.

The actress also compared her first meeting with Glass Onion co-star Daniel Craig and the cast to the musical Annie as she recalled that it was like ‘when Daddy Warbucks comes down the stairs and every actor in the movie walks down the stairs when they arrive’.

She praised the No Time To Die actor as ‘goofy and silly’ and said that he ‘set a lovely, generous tone right off the bat’ ahead of the film’s shoot.
