ASIC notice reveals WA builder Collier Homes is being wound up after more than 60 years

One of Western Australia’s biggest residential builders is being wound up after more than 60 years in business.

Collier Homes appointed liquidators this week, a notice published by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission revealed.

Robert Conry Brauer and Linda Methven Smith from McGrath Nicol have been appointed liquidators.

The custom home builder was created by Raymond McCarthy in 1959.

It was named after Collier St in leafy Applecross, where he lived.

The business was sold to a national land developer in 1969 and changed hands multiple times since.

Colliers representatives are yet to speak on the company’s liquidation.

In a recent note on its website, the firm said it tried hard to please customers during these challenging times.

“The post-COVID stimuli were well-intentioned, however, they created massive supply chain shortages, delays and labour constraints all translating to unpredictable cost escalation,” Colliers said.

It then went on to reference a CoreLogic report from April 10 which said building costs are still “27.6 per cent higher than at the start of the pandemic, which is likely putting significant pressure on builder’s profit margins”.
