'We were convinced we'd go through'
FT: Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (agg: 4-4, 3-4 pens)
Real Madrid
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti to Movistar: "We started well, went ahead and then we had to fight to survive, we had to suffer. City had control because we defended too deep.
"By the time the penalty shootout came, we were totally convinced we'd go through.
"This is about the only way you can come to City and win. You work, sacrifice and win however you can. Pep Guardiola is a gentleman, always has been. He congratulated us, wished us good luck and that's what a real gent does.
"We defended really, really well tonight. This was about survival. Madrid is a club based on always fighting to stay in situations where there seems to be no way out – but we always find a way."

FT: Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (agg: 4-4, 3-4 pens)
Manchester City
More from Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: "I would have preferred to have won but congratulations to Real Madrid. We did everything so I have absolutely no regret about anything we have done.
"I always say as a manager, it is about scoring more and conceding less and we did everything. We played exceptional but unfortunately we could not win so it is what it is"
'Everyone performed at a high level'
FT: Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (agg: 4-4, 3-4 pens)
Manchester City
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola: "I have to say thank you to these players from deep in my heart because the way they played. But football is about winning and we didn't do enough yet we were exceptional.
"Sometimes you can win on penalties and sometimes you cannot. But in the game we did not convert the chances that we had, even though we defended really. Everyone performed at a high level. We said we would have to be at our best to play Real Madrid and they were."

'Real got the job done'
FT: Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (agg: 4-4, 3-4 pens)
Shay Given
Former Man City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid have such big history in this competition. It is not the first time we have said they have got the job done.
Yes they did ride their luck at times. Then there was the penalty shootout, but you just felt like they were going to get it over the line - Ancelotti seems to be able to get it done.

'We dominated the whole game'
FT: Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (agg: 4-4, 3-4 pens)
Manchester City
Manchester City defender Ruben Dias to TNT Sports: "I don't know what to say. Frustrating. We dominated the whole game. You go to penalties. The effort was there. We had chances. It's a difficult one to take.
"You always end up doing everything to try to avoid penalties. That's what they wanted.
"The team was there. We fought, we had our chances but it wasn't our day.
"We had the chances. Sometimes the ball goes in, sometimes it doesn't. Now we have to look forward at what's to come in the season.
"We won't have much time to rest. It's a busy part of the season. Now is a time to be strong especially in the head. We're still in two important competitions."

'I wouldn't plan for that'
FT: Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (agg: 4-4, 3-4 pens)
Guillem Balague
Spanish football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live
On Real Madrid's game plan...
I wouldn't plan for that. They didn't [defend well]. Erling Haaland's header that hit the bar... If that is a bit lower, it goes in.
The chance for Kevin de Bruyne - the game would have ended then.
Madrid conceded a lot of possession and defended a lot. Nine times out of 10, the win would have gone to City.
'Most teams would fall apart'
FT: Man City 1-1 Real Madrid (agg: 4-4, 3-4 pens)
Real Madrid
Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham to TNT Sports: "It's relief. You put so much into the game. I've played against City before and they snatch it away from you. I was pretty much dead on my feet at the end.
"It's so difficult. They are continuously probing with the ball and move you around. Most teams would fall apart when City get on top of you but we stood up really well.
"I could never dream of how it started [his time at Real], just the feeling you get playing for the club - getting to put the badge on your chest. Long may it continue. Hopefully more nights like this.
"Our biggest strength is he [Carlo Ancelotti] finds a way to let a lot of boys play with freedom. We're so off the cuff. As a man he fills you with calmness and confidence. I caught him yawning and he said to go out and excite him.
"You have to see it as a responsibility not a pressure if you want to play for a team like Real Madrid.
"Today it came down to mentality.
"It's beautiful. My brother is here today, the first time he's seen me play for Madrid."

'Through the tie the margins have been very small'
FT: Bayern 1-0 Arsenal (agg: 3-2)
Arsenal
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to TNT Sports: "At the moment it's a gutted dressing room, very disappointed. I cannot find the right words to leave them, I wish I had.
"We have to go through it. We tried against a team with a lot of experience. Through the tie the margins have been very small. There were moments that we were better, we gave them two goals - that is a big advantage to give away.
"Today you could see that it was a zero margin of error, we made a mistake defensively in the box, big one, and we give away the goal.
"Now is the moment to stick with the players, because they need our support. They are the ones that have taken us on this journey."
On if Arsenal missed a moment of magic: "Yes. Had to be. A mistake from them or a magic moment, that is what unlocks the tie. We didn't manage to win it at the end and we could have won. At moment we were better than them and had a lot of moments of dominance.
"That spark around the box is what you need in these ties to get the victory."
On the progression of the side: "The club has been without Champions League football for seven years. The first time you want to be in it, then you want to be in the semi-finals and finals. We all want it so badly, but you see in many other clubs it takes six, seven years to get to that stage. But we were very close, that is the reality."
On the title race: "What we have ahead is beautiful. Six games to and we are two points behind City. A busy schedule for everybody. We have to go through the pain tonight, and tomorrow get up, come with the same attitude that we came here and hopefully beat Wolves."

Carlo Ancelotti walked off with his hands in the pocket. He is probably having a glass of wine and smoking a cigar.
He is so cool.
