The Boston-New York beef extends into many facets of life, including food. Bostonians don’t care much to hear about New Yorker opinions on the Bay State food scene, but The New York Times did it anyway in their Where to Eat: 25 Best series for Boston.
It isn’t the first time the series has led to discussions about what they got right and wrong about the culinary scenes of other cities, like Chicago and San Francisco.
And as far as the Boston list goes, it’s actually pretty wide-ranging. There are essential restaurants — the kinds of eateries you probably take visitors to — like the always busy Neptune Oyster. Then there are acclaimed newcomers, like Comfort Kitchen.
As the publication notes in its introduction to the Boston list, the culinary scene here isn’t just Italian and seafood, with nods to Vietnamese food in Dorchester and a Thai tapas spot in Brookline. But there are also several seafood and Italian restaurants that appear on the list, because this is Boston after all.
The list was also a good showing of Greater Boston rather than just Boston, with several Camberville eateries, French-Vietnamese on the North Shore, or a fried seafood staple in Winthrop. It should also be noted that the restaurants are not ranked, but rather listed alphabetically.
Before we get into the list, we want to know what you think about it — we know you have opinions. Did a favorite of yours show up? Do you want to give a shoutout to a deserving restaurant that they missed?
Tell us in the form below, or e-mail us at [email protected], and we’ll put together our readers’ version of the best Boston restaurants list.
