‘Mould is gone!’: Mrs Hinch fans share top tips to clean washing machine seals - ‘amazing’

CLEANING enthusiasts have taken to social media to share their top tips for cleaning washing machine seals. One Mrs Hinch fan said her tip "works a treat".

, real name Sophie Hinchliffe, rose to fame on Instagram after she started to share unusual tips and tricks. Fans of the cleaning guru now regularly share their own advice, including how to clean a washing machine seal.

Asking for help on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one woman asked for help cleaning her washing machine.

Naomi Bennett wrote: “Please help! How do I clean the rubber seal on my washing machine?”

The Mrs Hinch fan shared a photo of the seal, showing a buildup of gunk and mould.

If not cleaned regularly, the obstructions may prevent the door from creating an airtight seal, resulting in a risk of water leakage from the drum.

Group members took to their comments to share top tips on getting rid of the mould and gunk.

Paige Matthews commented: “I’ve used white vinegar spray on a sponge and then scrub it.”

Jackie Barrett said: “I use vinegar on my seal.”

White vinegar makes a great cleaner and disinfectant because it is made from acetic acid.

The acetic acid is so powerful it can dissolve mineral deposit, dirt, grease and grime.

It is also strong enough to kill bacteria.

Other fans recommended using vinegar as well as other cleaning methods at the same time.

Lily Johnson wrote: “I always place a bit of kitchen roll under the seal to soak up the excess water, it helps prevent mould and get rid of it.

“I then will leave the washing machine door open to air it out and go in with some white vinegar.

“Amazing trick that works for me is to use a toothbrush, obviously a spare one you can use for cleaning, works a treat.”

Angie Milsom said: “Agree, this is a great cleaning tip, works every time, mould is gone!”

Other group members recommended using a dedicated mould cleaning spray.

Nicky Woodman wrote: “I use Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster. I roll up some kitchen roll and put around the rubber seal then saturate the kitchen roll with the spray.

“Leave overnight and then scrub the next day.”

Tracy Chapman said: “Use Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster!”

As well as cleaning the rubber seal itself, Mrs Hinch fans also recommended cleaning the drum and the drawers too.

Sue Baker commented: “Put two dishwasher tablets in the drum and put on a hot wash, brilliant stuff.”

Sally Birtwell wrote: “A mixture of a cup of white vinegar and a dessert spoon of bicarbonate of soda in the washing machine did the trick for me.”

Bicarbonate of soda has natural deodorising properties, making it great for using in the washing machine.
