Steve Cooper says Swansea City are unlikely to dip into the free agent market in a bid to boost their options in the final third.

The Swans have found goals hard to come by this term in comparison to the sides around them, having netted just 39 times so far in 31 games, the lowest of any side in the top six.

Improving the firepower at his disposal has long been a key priority for Cooper, with the club previously taking a look at free agent Fabio Borini over a possible return to SA1, but they ultimately decided against a move.

And it seems the club is now unlikely to dip their toe into the free agent market again, despite ongoing concerns over a lack of cutting edge.

First-choice strike pairing Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe have so far netted just two goals between them in the last five games, with the latter without a goal in the last seven league outings.

The recent loss of Jordan Morris has further depleted Cooper's options up front at a critical time of the season, and the Swans boss admits that he doesn't have the strength in depth he would perhaps like ahead of the final 15 games of the campaign.

Asked if he'd thought about the prospect of casting an eye on an unattached striker, Cooper replied: "No, not really. One I don't know if there are any of the right type of players to bring in and whether the club would do it anyway. I'm not sure.

"It's not really a bridge we've looked across.

"We haven't got a lot of options up front," he continued. "But sometimes you get dealt these cards and you have to deal with it and get on with it. I don't want to moan about it. I don't want to moan about anything that might or might not be going our way."

Cooper made little secret of his desire to get a number nine on board back in the January window, identifying it as a position ripe for strengthening ahead of a busy second half of the season.

He was ultimately left disappointed, but insists he's refusing to dwell on what might have been.

"Now's not that time for that," he added. "We're in such a busy period with games coming thick and fast. I think it's all about being positive about our work. Positive about our group and commit to what we can do as opposed to what they can't do.

"I think we need to judge that at the end of the season. Not now. I'm not not really in the mood for talking about things like that because so much can still happen. Good and bad, maybe.

"In the end, the proof wil be in the pudding at the end of the season, and we can sort of maybe have an idea about the answers to those questions then.

"Now, it's about seeing about what we've got in the building, which is a brilliant set of lads that work so hard. A talented group that gives their all every single day.

"Let's carry on getting on with it."

Meanwhile, the Swans are set to be boosted by the return of Kyle Naughton, while Wayne Routledge is also closing in on full fitness, with Cooper keen to move on from Saturday's disappointing defeat at home to Bristol City.

"Kyle Naughton's fine," he said. "Ryan Bennett's still getting back from his calf injury. Wayne's getting closer but still not ready for this week and then there's the longer-term boys who are carrrying on through the process. So it's just Naughton really that's available.

"We've put it to bed and moved on because you have to, and it was probably similar to what I said straight after the game. I won't lose sight of how well we played at times because we did. I won't ignore that.

"In the end you want to play in that way and style to win games. We've looked at it, gone through it with the players. They obviously had their view as well and we move on."
