Kate Garraway's son issues three-words to Derek Draper in touching moment on ITV doc
Derek died at the beginning of January after a four-year battle with Covid, which he had contracted in March 2020.
In a new one-off documentary set to air on ITV tonight, Derek Draper shares a heartwarming moment with his son Billy as the father and son bond in a sweet scene. Derek tragically died in January after battling long-covid for four years, but his final few months were filmed for the documentary.
In one scene, his wife Kate Garraway and son Billy sit beside him as he lays in bed and the trio open up the Good Morning Britain star's birthday cards. She says: "What I thought I might do with you is open up some of my birthday cards, maybe you could read some and I could read some.
"Does that sound like something? the ITV star asks as Derek responds: "Yes". Billy enters the room as Kate asks: "Right Bill, do you want to come and stand next to Dad?"
She hands him one of her birthday cards as Derek proceeds to confidently read out the card from her cousin. He reads another card but instead of reading it out in its entirety, Derek simply says: "It's from Maggie the neighbour."
Billy expresses: "Read it out, you can't just say who it's from," as his dad starts laughing at the situation. Derek looks like he's in discomfort from laughing as Billy sweetly kisses his dad's shoulder in order to comfort him.

Derek died at the beginning of January after a four-year battle with Covid, which he had contracted in March 2020.
He spent 13 months in hospital, which included 214 days on a ventilator and four months in an induced coma.
The virus resulted in brain inflammation, kidney failure, and damage to his liver and pancreas.
By July, 2020, the dad-of-two from Chorley in Lancashire was brought out of the deep sleep but remained "minimally conscious".

Although he was able to return home to Kate and their children Darcey and William in April 2021, he required constant care.
In a statement posted on Instagram in January, the I'm A Celebrity star revealed: "I’m sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away.
