Intel has added several new patches for its next-gen Battlemage "Xe2" GPUs which point out to DP 2.0 support rather than the newer DP 2.1 standard.

Intel's Battlemage "Xe2" GPU Has Witnessed Tremendous Enablement Work Done By Engineers On Linux, Patches Also Reveal Display Support Limited To DP 2.0 Standard

We are not far from the debut of the Intel Alchemist's "Xe" successor, codenamed Battlemage "Xe2", and as launch approaches, engineers have started to speed up enablement work on Linux. With the debut of new patches, we are now seeing new information regarding the lineup surface, and it seems like the GPUs would support a maximum DisplayPort bandwidth of UHBR13.5 (DP 2.0) and not the latest standards like UHBR20.

Apart from the change in DisplayPort specifications, the new patches haven't revealed anything interesting, Diving into the latest change, well it isn't much of a disappointment to see the exclusion of UHBR20 standard, since the support for UHBR13.5 at this level is optimal enough. If you are confused, UHBR20 stands for "Ultra High Bit-Rate," coming at 20 Gbps, while the UHBR13.5 and UHBR10 feature lesser bandwidth speeds, 13.5 Gbps & 10.0 Gbps, respectively. It's interesting to note that the support for UHBR20 is relatively confined right now, and only a few monitors, like the Gigabyte's AORUS FO32U2P, feature it.

However, because competitors like AMD already support DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20), Intel's next-gen Battlemage "Xe2" GPUs might be on the backside, but not at least until the display standard reaches widespread adoption. With Intel engineers preparing quickly for Battlemage, we are expected to receive much more enhanced support at the official launch period on Linux and an improved situation compared to what we saw with the Arc lineup last time.

In terms of when to expect Intel's Battlemage "Xe2" GPUs to drop, we recently reported that the lineup could drop by in the second half of 2024, near Black Friday 2024, depending upon how Intel decides to proceed forward.
