British PM Boris Johnson gushes about his 'great' phone call with Scott Morrison - as he urges Australia to take 'bold action' on climate change

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been told to take 'bold action' on climate change during a 'great call' with his British counterpart Boris Johnson.
The two leaders spoke overnight, building on the 'long-standing friendship and partnership between the UK and Australia'.
The pair discussed the progression of a Free Trade Agreement and working together on global issues, including strengthening democratic values and boosting free and fair trade.

A statement from 10 Downing Street revealed Mr Johnson then shifted the conversation to climate change and 'stressed that we need bold action' to address the issue.
'Looking ahead to the Climate Ambition Summit on 12 December and COP26 in Glasgow next year, he [Mr Johnson] emphasised the importance of setting ambitious targets to cut emissions and reach Net Zero,' the statement read.
'They agreed to intensify the partnership between the UK and Australia on developing and scaling up green technologies.'
Mr Johnson told Mr Morrison the UK's experience showed that driving economic growth and reducing emissions can go hand-in-hand.
The United Kingdom has set a goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050 but Australia has not.

A spokesperson for Mr Morrison said the British leader welcomed Australia's suite of emissions reductions programs.
'Both countries agreed to work closely together to accelerate research and deployment of low emission technologies,' the spokesperson said.
Mr Johnson tweeted about the 'great call' chat with his 'friend' Mr Morrison.
'Whether it's boosting trade between great nations or developing cutting-edge technology to tackle climate change - the UK and Australia are partners in building back better from coronavirus,' he wrote.
