MEMPHIS, Tenn. — As more information comes to light following Saturday’s mass shooting in Orange Mound, loved ones of the victims have begun to speak out.

WREG talked to Debra Brewer, the grandmother of 17-year-old Antonio Humphrey, who was one of two people who died as a result of the block party shooting.

“A lot of people loved Antonio. He was funny. He was outgoing,” Brewer said. “That was my baby. He’s been with me since he was about six years old.”

Humphrey was one of nine people hit by bullets during a block party. The ages of the victims ranged from 16 to 29.

22-year-old Chalmar Fason was also killed. Memphis Police confirmed that the other victims are in stable condition.

Brewer said she learned about her grandson’s death after receiving a terrifying call from his older sister.

“She was hollering over the phone and crying real loud, and all this and that, and I was saying, “What’s wrong? What’s wrong,” Brewer said. “Said they came up shooting, and Tonio was laying over there, and he had got shot.”

Cell phone video shared with WREG showed a car doing donuts in the middle of a crowd just before shots rang out. The gunfire lasted for nearly one minute.

“I heard they were supposed to be doing a video shoot. Somebody—I don’t know who they were—it wasn’t Tonio,” Brewer said. I didn’t have any idea that he was even over at a block party.”

Police have released little information about what led up to the shooting but said the shooting occurred at an unpermitted block party with hundreds of people, including children, in attendance.

Brewer said her family does not know who shot Antonio or why. Brewer is asking those responsible for her grandson’s death to come forward.

“These devils need to speak up, change their lives because it’s going to eat them from the inside out,” Brewer said.

MPD is also asking for the public’s help. The reward for information leading to an arrest has been increased to $15,000.
