As the Czech Republic, which is pushing for a new nuclear power plant project, is expected to issue a security assessment questionnaire as early as this month, Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) is going all-out war to win new nuclear power plant project in the Czech Republic.
KHNP CEO Chung Jae-hoon visited Prague, Czech Republic, for two days on June 17 and June 18 (local time), conveying KHNP's willingness to participate in the new nuclear power plant project to the Czech government and conducting activities such as interviews with key personnel for the project.
In January and April, the Czech Republic decided to completely exclude China and Russia from potential suppliers for its new nuclear power plants. The Czech Republic will issue a security assessment questionnaire to three countries, South Korea, the U.S., and France, as early as this month.
CEO Chung met with members of the Czech nuclear committee and opposition leaders in the Czech parliament during his two-day visit to the Czech Republic. During the meeting, he announced Korea's outstanding nuclear power plant construction capability and safety and expressed KHNP's ability to carry out the project.
On the same day, KHNP signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sigma to expand localization and solidified cooperation with local companies and institutions to win new nuclear power plants.
"We are building a strategic partnership with the Czech nuclear power plant industry," said Chung Jae-hoon, CEO of KHNP. "We will strengthen our friendly relationship with the planned nuclear power plant construction coutries and make sure to win a new Czech nuclear power plant project based on the safety and excellent construction capabilities of Korean nuclear power plants."
Meanwhile, the Czech Republic will conduct a security assessment of potential suppliers by the end of this year and determine which suppliers will participate in the bidding. The project is planned to begin in 2029.
