SINGAPORE: A 54-year-old GrabFood delivery rider died on Friday (Jun 24) after an accident with a lorry along Punggol Walk.

The police said they were alerted to an accident involving a lorry and a power-assisted bicycle along Punggol Walk towards Punggol Way at about 9.50am.

The 54-year-old male rider was conscious on the way to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries, said the police.

A 65-year-old male lorry driver is assisting the police with investigations.

In a video shared online on Friday, the rider is seen lying on the road outside what appears to be a carpark exit. A sign of Waterway Point shopping mall at Punggol Central can also be partially seen in the video.

Responding to CNA queries, Grab said that it was aware of the "unfortunate accident" and  was in contact with the rider’s next-of-kin to provide assistance.

Said a spokesperson: “The safety and well-being of our delivery-partners are important to Grab, and we want to take the opportunity to remind fellow road users to practice safe driving habits.”
