What Can You Do When You Forget Your Lens Filters?

Neutral density and polarizing filters are an essential part of most landscape photographers' kits, giving them the ability to better control long exposures, suppress reflections, and add contrast. So, what can you do when you forget your filters at home? This neat video explores photographing without them and how you can mimic their usage through some clever post-processing techniques.

Coming to you from Adam Gibbs, this great video follows him as he heads out after forgetting his lens filters. No doubt, that can be a really frustrating thing as a landscape photographer, but on the other hand, filters are not necessary to create compelling images. And as you will see, you can actually mimic the look of a long exposure of moving water quickly and easily in Photoshop. There is not really a way to mimic the ability to remove reflections or glare afforded by a good polarizing filter in post, unfortunately, so that is something to keep in mind should you find yourself in this situation. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Gibbs.
