A 30-year-old Orlando man was killed Tuesday morning and several others were hospitalized after a bus crashed into an SUV on State Road 417, shutting down all southbound traffic throughout the morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

As of noon, one southbound lane remained closed, the FHP reported.

At around 5:45 a.m. a 2002 Chevy Taho was disabled in the right lane on southbound SR-417 near John Young Parkway, said FHP’s Lt. Kim Montes. The Orlando man, who was a passenger, exited the SUV and began pushing it. Inside was a 28-year-old woman, a 4-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy, Montes said.

Meanwhile, a tour bus, driven by a 56-year-old Kissimmee woman, was southbound on SR-417. It hit the Orlando man and struck the back of the SUV.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Montes said. Troopers arrived to find the woman seriously injured. She was taken to Orlando Health. The two children, who were in car seats, received minor injuries and were taken to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital where they were listed in stable condition, Montes said.

The Kissimmee woman was not injured.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
