iOS 16 Beta 2 Edited Messages Are Now Resent To Older Versions Of iOS

Apple’s upcoming iOS 16 update is now in the hands of developers and the second developer beta includes a change that Apple will hope will improve the experience of people using older versions of iOS.

In the second beta, made available to developers earlier this week, Apple has made a change that will resend messages when they are edited and have been received by someone using an older version of iOS.

While those running iOS 16 will see the edited version, those running iOS 15 or older will now receive a new message with the updated text inside.

The folks at 9to5Mac have the details:

Now, when a user edits a message sent via iMessage on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 16, other users receive a new version of that message labeled “Edited for.” Of course, this is not as seamless as the feature is when both users are running iOS 16 (since the app replaces the old message with the new one), but it’s better than not getting the edited message at all.

Apple will make iOS 16 available to everyone later this fall, while those hoping for a public beta should be able to get their hands on the update next month, complete with editable messages.

Apple’s iOS 16 update includes a number of big improvements including a new Lock Screen that offers widgets and more.
