He royally screwed up.
Miles Teller reflected on the moment he broke royal protocol while meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton at the London premiere of “Top Gun: Maverick” in May.
“Right off the bat, I messed up,” the actor, 35, said on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday.
“You’re not supposed to extend your hand right off the bat unless they do. But I felt the vibe, so I’m like, ‘I’m going in, I’m going in.’”
Teller shared that he was given “rules of dos and don’ts” so he “wouldn’t f–k up” while meeting William and Middleton, both 40, but he admitted that etiquette went out the window because he was charmed by the newly named Prince and Princess of Wales.
“To their credit, they were very disarming. I was lost. Prince William’s eyes,” he said, describing them as “blue as the bluest ocean.”
“Kate was beautiful and cordial and holds herself so well and regal. And with William, I don’t know. I just blacked out.”
The “Whiplash” star’s greeting was such a disaster that his “Top Gun” castmate Jennifer Connelly was seen laughing as the events unfolded.
“I was kind of riffing on what this interaction was going to be like, so I think [Connelly] was already on alert about if she thought I was gonna go a bit rogue about the whole thing,” he explained.
Despite his hiccup with His and Her Royal Highness, Teller joked that he definitely made a lasting impression on the couple.
“I think he’s a lifelong fan now,” the “Divergent” star joked of William, adding, “I was just picking up what he was putting down.”
Evidently, the encounter was so memorable that another one of Teller’s co-stars, Jon Hamm, shared his recollection of it in May.
“[Teller] geeked out a little on Prince William’s eyes,” the “Mad Men” star, 51, said on “The Tonight Show” at the time. “I remember [Teller] coming back afterwards, and he was like, ‘They’re so blue. … I got lost in his eyes.’”
Hamm shared that Teller even told William himself that he “loved his eyes.”
“I was like, ‘You told the guy? You fell in love, like you got lost in his eyes?’” he recalled. “[Teller] goes, ‘I think. I don’t know, I’ve lost my mind.’”
Hamm also reflected on “Top Gun” lead Tom Cruise interacting with William and Middleton, sharing that the “Risky Business” star, 60, followed protocol to a tee.
“Tom’s got it all on lock, of course,” the “Town” star said, joking that Cruise would have no problem “texting” Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen died nearly two months later on Sept. 8 at the age of 96. Her cause of death was recently revealed to be “old age.”
