American man in Chiang Mai accused of killing pregnant wife and hiding body in bin

A U.S. man was arrested in Chiang Mai after allegedly killing his pregnant wife, concealing her body in a trash can and dumping it in an abandoned field.

Chiang Mai police on Friday morning were questioning 32-year-old Jason Matthew Balzer, who was in custody after he became the prime suspect in the death of his wife, Pitchaporn Kidchob, who was three months pregnant.

Police had been looking for Balzer several days when they tracked him to a home in Chiang Mai’s Hang Dong district on Thursday afternoon, according to Lt. Col. Kraisri Chulapan of the Chiang Mai police.

Pitchaporn’s mother, Anong Tanya, alerted police in Nan province on Sunday that her daughter was missing. When searching the couple’s home, police found blood stains on a mattress and other furniture.

Pitchaporn’s body was found two days later in a green garbage bin in a deserted field around 15 kilometers away. Her body had two stab wounds, according to Kraisri.

Balzer initially confessed to killing his wife, Kraisri said, and dumping her body.
