Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly had a videographer follow them around during their whirlwind trip through New York City, with the footage possibly being used for “a rumored Netflix documentary about their lives,” Page Six reported.
Though such a project is unconfirmed, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a deal with Netflix last year to produce various programming, Vanity Fair added.
One of the first projects the couple supposedly discussed with Netflix executives before even signing their multimillion-dollar deal with the streaming service in September 2020 was to making a fly-on-the-wall documentary about their lives, Page Six said.
So, possibly for that personal documentary, the videographer reportedly accompanied the couple to various locations around the city.
The New York trip was their first high-profile outing since Meghan gave birth to their second child, Lilibet Diana, in June. The trip’s main purpose was to join the all-star lineup for Global Citizen Live. The 24-hour event was broadcast live from Central Park on Saturday, with the aim of promoting equal access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Page Six said the videographer was first seen with the couple on Thursday, running ahead of them as they arrived for a tour of the 9/11 Memorial.
Meghan raised some eyebrows in the ever critical U.K. tabloids by sporting a stylish but heavy looking overcoat by Giorgio Armani in the humid, 80-degree weather. Page Six noted that this and other coats or jackets Meghan sported during their New York appearances would have allowed her to hide any mics.
Although Harry and Meghan are no longer working members of the royal family, they enjoyed a state-visit-like meeting with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio at One World Trade Center, the main skyscraper rebuilt at the World Trade Center following the September 11 attacks. The Sussexes were joined by the New York officials on One World Observatory on floors 100 to 102.
During the visit, Meghan told reporters, “It’s wonderful to be back.”
Page Six reported that Harry appeared to be sporting a mic on Friday, during his visit with Meghan to the iconic Harlem soul food eatery Melba. While there, the couple gave $25,000 to the restaurant’s employee relief fund, and Harry ate chicken and waffles for the first time. He “remarked it was delicious,” a source said, according to Vanity Fair.
Harry also had a wire around his neck, which was then seen tucked into the pocket of his chinos as he hugged restaurant owner Melba Wilson, Page Six reported.
The couple had earlier visited a public elementary school in Harlem to meet students and discuss healthy eating in the community, Elle reported. Meghan, who wore a raspberry red trouser suit by Loro Piana to the school, also did a reading from her best-selling children’s book, “The Bench,” Elle added.
Sources who know the Sussexes told Page Six that they have also been collecting footage for the archives of their Archewell foundation.
But “filming aside, it appears Harry and Meghan’s New York trip has been productive,” Vanity Fair said.
Meghan, donning a black skirt and camel Max Mara coat, also visited the United Nations to meet with the US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield to discuss racial justice, mental health awareness, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Elle reported. After that, she headed to the World Health Organization’s offices to talk with Chelsea Clinton and world leaders, experts and activists about vaccine equity.
