In the latest 'politmonitor' survey ahead of the European elections in Luxembourg, the LSAP's Mars Di Bartolomeo leads the candidate ranking while the CSV emerges as the most trusted party to address European issues.

In light of the upcoming European elections, to be held in Luxembourg on 9 June, ILRES, in partnership with RTL and Wort, commissioned a new 'politmonitor' survey to feel the pulse of eligible voters in the Grand Duchy. While the first part focuses on the candidates running for office, the second part zooms in on a list of wider issues, ranging from general concerns to concrete EU policies.

LSAP leading the pack

MP Mars Di Bartolomeo of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) has topped the ranking with 68 percentage points. European election veteran and incumbent MEP Charles Goerens of the Democratic Party (DP) comes in second with 67 points, followed by the LSAP's MP Liz Braz in third place with 56 points.

Tied in fourth position with 55% are Braz' party colleague Marc Angel, the current Vice-President of the European Parliament, and MP Christophe Hansen of the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), who is eyeing the position of EU commissioner.

A similar shift can also be observed among The Greens, with former minister and current MP François Bausch garnering most support with 53 points, thereby placing him ahead of MEP and lead candidate Tilly Metz with 45 points.

The DP's MP Gusty Graas and CSV MEP Martine Kemp share position eight, both garnering 42%. Her party colleague and MEP Isabel Wiseler-Lima follows closely behind with 41 points.

Fokus lead candidate Frank Engel, a former MEP for the CSV, received 29 points, followed by MP Fernand Kartheiser of the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) with 24%. Ana Correia da Veiga of The Left garnered 20%, The Pirate Party's Raymond Remakel 19%, and the ADR's Alexandra Schoos 18%.

The lowest-ranked politician at 16% is MEP Monica Semedo, a former DP member who switched to Fokus after two cases of bullying allegations were launched against her in the EU Parliament.

CSV tops voter–confidence ranking

Despite Christophe Hansen being the only CSV candidate in the top five, the conservatives top the voter–confidence ranking. A quarter of people believe that the CSV is the best choice to tackle the current problems in Europe.

The DP comes in second with 17%, closely followed by the LSAP in third with 16%.

9% of respondents expressed confidence in The Greens, 5% in the ADR, 2% in the Pirate Party, and 1% in the Left, in Fokus, and in Zesummen – D'Bréck.
