'The Bachelorette' bombshell recap: Clare calls Dale Moss her fiancé. And Tayshia. Is. Back

A villain makes an ironic exit. An inconsequential one-on-one date ends in an oh-so-awkward goodbye. And the wary contestants are starting to weigh sending themselves home. This has to be one for Bachelor Nation history books.

And those aren't even the highlights of Tuesday's episode of "The Bachelorette." That would be when star Clare Crawley called Dale Moss, with whom she made an almost-instant connection, her fiancé. Or maybe it was the appearance of Tayshia.

We pick up right where we left off last week: The cocktail party before Clare's second rose ceremony. She already gave a surprise rose to Blake Moynes, whom she wanted to reassure after some dramatics earlier in the week that alienated his fellow would-be suitors. But that doesn't even begin to get at the unpredictability that awaits us.

Last week:'Does anyone want to spend time with me?' Drama looms between Clare and her 'Bachelorette' men

'I expected a lot more from the oldest Bachelorette'

Yosef, the 30-year-old Alabama native who, in the last episode, protested the nudity on the group dodgeball date (that he wasn't a part of), thinks Clare made a "classless" decision to have the guys strip down to thong underwear during the game.

The rest of the guys try to calm him down – Ivan hopes he's not trying to make Clare out to be a villain for what he thought was just some harmless fun – but Yosef can't be convinced otherwise. He apparently needs to "wash my hands of this atrocity."

Eliminated Oct. 27: Yosef, 30, a medical-device salesman from Daphne, Ala.

He sits down with Clare and tells her that, as the father of a young girl, he was embarrassed to be associated with a woman who thought the strip dodgeball game was appropriate, and says she sounded "a little crazy" during his group date after expressing concern that none of the men wanted to talk to her.

Things quickly get out of hand: Clare tries to jump in to say she understands his concerns about his daughter (that's why he wasn't chosen for the date) and feels for him missing important family time (her mom is suffering from Alzheimer's), but Yosef blows up after she tries to get a word in.

Clare sets the record straight. "The way you're talking to me right now? Never in a million years did I ever think I would have to utter these words again. … Do not talk to me like that. I never thought I'd have to tell any man that I would never want them to be the father of my child," she said, echoing those famous words she said to "Bachelor" Juan Pablo Galavis six years earlier.

"I expected way more from the oldest Bachelorette in history," Yosef says, storming off. "She's all yours, boys."

For all his concern about embarrassing his family on national television, Yosef isn't too worried about yelling insults at a woman until she starts crying. Suffice it to say, he's out.

'I don't settle':Clare Crawley teases pandemic 'Bachelorette' season, talks 'blowing up' the show

"To sit there and say 'you're the oldest Bachelorette' – guess what? I'm the oldest Bachelorette, this 39(year-old) that's standing here that's single, because I didn't settle for men like that," Clare says.

Dale swoops in to comfort her. He says all the right things, and Clare realizes this is exactly what she wants: a man like Dale "to make sure I don't have to go through it alone."

She isn't up for any more talking, and just wants to move right into the rose ceremony. It makes sense given everything that happened, but the guys who didn't get time with her are feeling pressed. Blake Monar, Garin and Tyler S. say goodbye.

'Could we kind of hurry the rest of the night along?'

Clare invites Jason, Jay, Eazy, Chasen, Blake Moynes, Ed, Riley and Dale to her first group date, which is supposed to "separate the men from the boys."

But first, she gets some advice from 2008 "Bachelorette" DeAnna Pappas, who says she can see it on Clare's face that she has feelings for Dale. We also find out that Dale gifted Clare those pants he ripped on the last group date. Romantic!

The visit takes so long that the day portion of the group date is canceled, and Clare tells the eight men they're just going to have a longer cocktail party instead.

Dale jumps in to ask if he can have just "five minutes" with Clare. They head to Clare's bedroom for a heart-to-heart about what went down with Yosef.

"Even for you to carry yourself the way you did … I'm proud of you," he says. "That's all I wanted to do tonight: check in, let you know I'm here and … just say I'm proud of you. This isn't easy at all."

Left with outgoing Bachelorette Clare Crawley Nov. 3: Dale, 31, a former pro football receiver from Brandon, S.D.

A five-minute talk turns into a lengthy make-out session (the guys estimate 40 minutes to an hour) and Eazy goes to track them down. When he does, he's clearly interrupting something. They both giggle as Dale leaves to give Eazy a chance to talk to her.

Eazy and the others get that chance, but not for long. Clare's mind is clearly on someone else, and at one point asks someone off-camera if they could "kind of hurry the rest along.”

The other men on the date are growing visibly frustrated with how cavalier Dale is acting. And if that wasn't bad enough, he interrupts Jay's conversation with her to steal her, again. Clare is all too happy to welcome him back.

This time Chasen interrupts and finds the two covering up another make-out session. Dale halfheartedly explains he was "confused" on his way to the bathroom and didn't mean to walk in on Clare and Jay. It's not a convincing story.

But guess who gets the group-date rose? Yep, Dale. If the others hadn't already turned on him, they definitely have now.

"I feel like we're kind of cast to the side for no reason," Eazy says. "You can see guys just defeated. It's just disappointing to see people's spirits basically beaten down."

An awkward one-on-one with an even more awkward ending

Clare invites Zach J., a 37-year-old from Utah, on a spa date. Sparks don't exactly fly at first. Clare keeps saying in interviews she just wishes Dale was there.

She tries to respect the show's formula, and they have a nice moment talking in the pool – until an odd misunderstanding when Zach J. pulls back right before kissing her, which Clare takes to mean he's not interested.

A confused Zach J., trying to reassure Clare that he did want to kiss her, persists in asking what's wrong and tries to grab her, which doesn't help. She says they should just get ready for dinner, heads inside alone and explains she was "triggered" and scared by his action.

"I didn't want to be near him in that moment," she says.

Eliminated Oct. 27: Zach J., 37, a cleaning-service owner from St. George, Utah

Not exactly a good omen when the person you're dating says that. Chris Harrison informs Zach J., already seated at the dinner table, that Clare won't be joining him, which means he's being sent home.

Zach J. clearly feels remorse for making Clare uncomfortable, but he's also still confused about what sparked her initial reaction. Back at the suites, Eazy says he isn't surprised another guy got sent home, because Dale is clearly the only one Clare has eyes for.

The unofficial roast of Dale Moss

The second group date was technically for Ben, Bennett, Brendan, Demar, Ivan, Joe, Jordan C., Kenny and Zac C. But where's the drama in that?

Those men are going to be roasting the rest of their peers, who will be the audience. Translation: Just when you thought we were done talking about Dale, here he is again.

Comedian Margaret Cho joins the "Bachelorette" bubble to help with the roast, much to the excitement of Joe, who is also Korean American.

Bennett, the Harvard and Wall Street guy who perpetually looks like he's just stepped off a yacht, knows exactly what kind of jokes are about to come his way. But he's more interested in dishing it to Dale. He's not the only one.

Chris Harrison welcomes contestants to "The Bachelorette's Roast," co-hosted by comedian Margaret Cho (right).

Almost all of the jokes are jabs at Dale – some of them harmless, others more mean-spirited. Clare doesn't find them amusing, but the men sure do. Later at the cocktail party, it's the only thing she wants to talk about.

"It literally feels like right now, she's only interested in Dale in this whole house, to the point where I feel like I'm wasting my time being here," Kenny says to the group. "It's almost like they're already dating."

A group-date rose usually comes next, but Clare announces she "did not get what I needed" from the men that evening and wants to sleep on it before rewarding anyone, which the guys agree is worse than someone else getting it over them. They're all wondering why they should waste their time with a woman who clearly isn't interested in any of them. Is a widespread contestant walkout looming?

Maybe, but that's not what Clare is concerned about. Now free from her group date, Clare talks with a show staffer about the evening.

"I don't think I can sit there and go, 'You dished on my fiancé so hard,' " Clare tells the producer. Wait, what? Fiancé??? What did we miss?

She jokingly gives herself the rose and says she feels like she's "on the right path with Dale."

Goodbye Clare, hello Tayshia?

A teaser for next week suggests we're getting closer to the season's big bomb: Clare is expected to leave the show and be replaced by "Bachelor" franchise alum Tayshia Adams, who takes over as the Bachelorette for the remainder of the season.

TAYSHIA ADAMS

After rumors swirled for months about Tayshia stepping in, fans got their first glimpse of her this season:  She looks at the camera as she walks in slow motion out of a pool that looks suspiciously like the one we've seen Clare and the guys use this season.
