What has David Beckham been up to since his retirement from football? He co-owns Inter Miami FC, makes millions from his Netflix docu and brand deals – and has a happy family with Victoria Beckham

Known as one of the greatest footballers of all time, David Beckham won 19 major trophies during his career on the pitch. Thanks to his signature kick, the midfield player even turned the phrase “bend it like Beckham” – referring to his curling technique – into a cultural phenomenon, including a 2002 film starring Keira Knightley.

But like many sporting legends, after playing for powerhouse clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid during his illustrious professional career, his retirement from professional football in 2013 was only the beginning of a whole new chapter in his life.

Here’s what he’s been up to since.

David Beckham is worth an impressive US$450 million

According to British media, Beckham, 48, was the seventh highest-paid athlete ever at the time of his retirement. Fortunately, the Beckham brand is still going strong even without his football millions.

Today, Becks has an impressive net worth of US$450 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. (Once his wife, former Spice Girl and now fashion designer Victoria Beckham, enters the picture, their combined net worth jumps to US$514 million, per Business Insider.)

With multiple investments, business ventures and endorsements since retiring, that amount will undoubtedly increase in years to come.

After Beckham’s retirement, it came as no surprise when the former footballer stayed in the sport – albeit in a more managerial role.

These days, he is the president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF, with high-profile players like Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets on the team. He’s also the director and co-owner of English non-league club Salford City.

His Netflix docu and other investments

Beckham made almost US$100 million in licensing deals last year, with his company DRJB Holdings’ revenue doubling thanks in part to his Netflix documentary, according to Fortune.

The streaming giant’s documentary series Beckham proved to be a huge hit, reaching 3.8 million viewers in its first week of release, according to Deadline.

Brand deals with Maserati, Adidas and other brands brought in US$92.2 million in revenue, also according to Fortune.

But he’s also made eyebrow-raising deals, like his controversial endorsement of the Qatar World Cup. He faced heavy public backlash for his decision because of Qatar’s human rights record, especially regarding LGBTQ+ issues.

He’s a doting dad and loving hubby

Thanks to Beckham’s retirement timing, he was fortunate to spend the last decade being a hands-on dad during a time when all the kids were still living under one roof. With both him and Victoria often on the road, Becks seems to have kept his family close and is regularly on daddy duty, especially now that 12-year-old Harper is the only child left in the house.

For Father’s Day last year, Beckham wrote on Instagram: “My biggest success and biggest love is my family. Thank you firstly to mummy [Victoria] for making daddy a dad.”. He added, “Dad really loves you all more than you can imagine,” and told his children to “keep being yourselves and keep dreaming”.

His Cotswold mansion

In 2016, the Beckhams bought a US$15 million mansion converted from a barn in the heart of the idyllic Cotswolds, where David has been spending increasingly more time. The property was heavily featured in his Netflix documentary and is regularly the backdrop of his Instagram posts.

The home is around the corner from celebrity favourite members’ club SoHo Farmhouse. Its garden features a swimming pool within a stone wall and, of course, his very own football pitch. In 2018, Beckham shared that he’d treated the family to an at-home Estonian igloo-sauna.
