After five years on our screens, Riverdale is officially coming to an end.
The CW drama, based on the wildly popular Archie Comics, first landed on our screens in 2017, starring KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Cole Sprouse nabbing the role of Jughead Jones and Camila Mendes playing Veronica Lodge.
However, according to reports, the network announced that it will be coming to an end after season seven.
A CW schedule release revealed that the seventh and final series will be landing on screens in 2023, so there is still time to say goodbye to the beloved gang.
In the first series, the gang came together to investigate the evils lurking in their seemingly happy town after a teenager was murdered, with suspicion behind every corner.
It initially got a positive reaction from critics and quickly became a firm fan favorite in the TV guide, making household names out of the cast.
It was renewed in March, alongside The Flash and All American, but will be leaving our screens next year.
KJ, who stars as one of the show’s leads, previously opened up about the experiences he had as Archie, and compared the pressure that comes with the series to ‘jail’.
In a chat with Demi Moore for Interview Magazine, he insisted that he was ‘so grateful’ to be involved with such a popular program, but confessed that he felt limited creatively.
‘As an actor, I will be judged on everything: my political opinions, my opinions on drugs, my opinions on the people I want to be with,’ he said. ‘Everything. It’s something I’ve had to come to terms with.’
‘I try and look at it from a fan’s perspective to understand the way they think. But there are times when I’m like, “Wow, they really have no idea that we are actual people. They can’t separate us from our characters.” You don’t have that in other professions.’
‘You don’t dissect the life of a builder and start judging the decisions he makes in his life with his wife and kids.’
Comparing this to his time on 2020 project Songbird, he added: ‘I felt so free coming from a show where I feel like I’m in jail a lot of the time. There are so many restrictions on what I can and can’t do.’
This isn’t the only series bidding farewell, as Charmed, Dynasty, Roswell, New Mexico were all axed by the CW in a move dubbed the ‘red wedding’ of TV.
Naomi, 4400, Legacies and In The Dark were also scrapped by the network – with Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow previously announced to be ending.
