Meghan Markle and her one-year-old son Archie spoke to the Queen before the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, it has been reported.

The Duchess of Sussex, 39, was said to be in touch with her husband Prince Harry ‘every day’ while he was back in the UK to say goodbye to his grandfather, who died on April 9, aged 99.

It was just over a month since his and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, which sent shockwaves through the palace and left plenty of tension within the Royal Family.

A royal source told People Magazine: ‘She knows the trip to England has been difficult for Harry. He didn’t want to leave Meghan and Archie alone.

‘Meghan has insisted to him every day though that they are fine. She hasn’t wanted him to worry.’

They added: ‘Meghan spoke with Harry before his grandfather’s funeral. Meghan and Archie also spoke with the Queen earlier this week.’

Prince Harry, 36, was understood to have flown back to California on Tuesday to be with Meghan, who is pregnant with their second child, and because he was on a ‘tight schedule’.

WINDSOR, ENGLAND - APRIL 17: Queen Elizabeth II takes her seat during the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on April 17, 2021 in Windsor, England. Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born 10 June 1921, in Greece. He served in the British Royal Navy and fought in WWII. He married the then Princess Elizabeth on 20 November 1947 and was created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich by King VI. He served as Prince Consort to Queen Elizabeth II until his death on April 9 2021, months short of his 100th birthday. This meant he missed the Queen’s birthday yesterday and was unable to spend more time with his father Prince Charles, with whom tensions still remain.

During the Sussexes’ interview with Oprah, Harry claimed his father had ‘stopped taking his calls’ after he left with his wife for a new life in Canada, and then later the US.

Last month, it was reported the Prince of Wales wanted to give a ‘point-by-point’ response to address some of the allegations, but he decided doing so would add fuel to the fire.

The Duke of Sussex wrote Charles a ‘deeply personal’ letter ahead of Philip’s funeral, with sources claiming he was forced to write to him because there had been a ‘complete communication breakdown’.

He was said to have ‘outlined his reasons for leaving’ and promised to ‘respect the institution’.

After the funeral at St George’s Chapel on Saturday, Harry was reported to have held two hour peace talks with Charles, his brother William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton.

Sources say they talked things out in his and Meghan’s former residence of Frogmore Cottage, on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

It is understood Charles and William wanted each other present for any meeting for fear that a ‘twisted version of events’ would leak out from Harry’s camp.

A source told the Mirror: ‘Harry didn’t expect everything to be completely back to normal but his feeling after seeing his family was there is a lot of ground to make up.

‘Whether that is harder or easier to do on the other side of the world remains to be seen.

‘There is a lot of distrust in the camp and everything is still very, very raw.’

Among the other shocking claims was that an unnamed member of the Royal Family raised ‘concerns’ about what colour Harry and Meghan’s baby Archie would be.

Meghan said she had suicidal thoughts as she struggled with the pressure of being a senior royal, claiming she couldn’t get any help from Buckingham Palace.

She also suggested Archie was not given the title of prince because he is mixed-race, while Harry suggested his father and brother were ‘trapped’ by the institution and couldn’t leave like he did.

In the aftermath of the interview, Buckingham Palace said in a statement that the racial issues raised were ‘concerning’. It added that some ‘recollections may vary’.

William later commented: ‘We are very much not a racist family.’
