Witta is a small rural town 105km north of Brisbane with a population of almost 1,300.

It's the second ATV death in south-east Queensland in recent weeks.

Gage Fowler, 16, died in a late-night rollover south of Toowoomba in March.

Three months earlier, a 44-year-old man died when his quad bike rolled over in neighbouring Kingsthorpe.

Another man was killed after a quad bike rolled in NSW's Lake Macquarie region earlier this month.

More than 180 lives have been lost in quad bike-related incidents in Australia over an eight-year period between January 2011 and March 2023.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission lobbied for tougher standards in 2018 due to the high death toll on all-terrain vehicles.

New safety regulations were introduced in 2019 in a bid to reduce injuries and fatalities.

In 2022 it was found more than 90 per cent of all new quad bikes sold in Australia complied with the national safety standard.
