British Skydiving Board launch probe into death of man in his 40s after 'parachute incident' at County Durham industrial estate

The British Skydiving Board have launched a probe into the death of a man in his 40s after a 'parachute incident' at a County Durham industrial estate. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the South West Industrial Estate in Shotton at 12.30pm on Saturday following concerns for a man's welfare.

The man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene as police officers and a cordon remained in place for some time.  

A spokesperson for Sky-High Skydiving, who are based at Shotton Airfield, confirmed today that a probe has been launched.

Sky-High Skydiving, which is based in at Shotton Airfield, said the British Skydiving Board have launched an investigation into the incident

A spokesperson said: 'The British Skydiving Board will investigate the incident and when completed it will submit its findings to the relevant authorities.'

They added that reports will be submitted to the coroner, the police, British Skydiving, and any other relevant authority when the investigation is complete.

The police said they are want to speak to anyone that was travelling on the A19 around 12.20pm yesterday. 

Detective Chief Inspector Mel Sutherland, leading the investigation, said: 'Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on the A19 at around 12.20pm to 12.30pm who may have mobile phone footage or dashcam footage which captures the moments leading up to the incident.

'Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this time.'

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: 'We received a call at 12:22 BST to reports of an incident in the South West Industrial Estate areaS of Peterlee.

'We dispatched 4 Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART), a clinical team leader, a specialist paramedic, two ambulances and requested support from the air ambulance.'
